Investing In The Hottest Green Technology Companies
Green Stock Investing = A Greener Portfolio

Breaking News!

Obama wins re-election, Green Energy is here to stay. Get ready to benefit from a new effort to go green.

From high gasoline prices to a new carbon tax to exciting new green technologies rolling out of research laboratories, the focus and opportunities over the next four years will center around green energy.

Emission Reducing Clean Green Technology

In the aftermath of the US Presidential election there is a flurry of activity in the green energy sector. From research labs to venture capital shops there is a new wave of excitement sweeping the land. The extraordinary buzz is over new Green Energy Solutions in early stages of development and the enormous financial opportunities which will be generated as a result of a reinvigorated push for US Energy Independence.

The investment opportunities will center around 3 key areas:

  1. Pollution Reduction
  2. Energy Efficiency
  3. Energy Storage

Over the past four years the focus and investment dollars centered around Solar and Wind Energy, two technologies that were not quite ready from a practical standpoint to compete with established energy sources and therefore could not become a functioning part of the mainstream economy.

The new direction for Green Energy will be to utilize already established and advanced technologies which can applied much more easily to major areas of the economy. These technologies which have been steadily progressing over the past century are currently experiencing even greater advances and can be even further ramped-up with the help of government funding and private capital influx.

Pollution Reduction

So far most efforts to curb GHG's (Greenhouse Gases) have either been voluntary or have dealt with internal combustion engines, but with President Obama winning re-election we can now expect some kind of carbon tax on industrial usage of fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas. While in the past decade this effort was chiefly motivated by the concern over the controversial Climate Change/Global Warming phenomenon in the next four years we are likely to see it as a way to raise much needed revenue and clean up the environment in one fell swoop.

While major industrial polluters will no doubt fight such a tax, they simply don't have the political clout to block it. Such a tax would also be palatable to John Q. Public who doesn't want his taxes to go up. Once the political fight is over the focus will quickly shift from fighting the measure to implementing it in the most economical manner possible.

Companies with innovative new technologies in this area will see a major influx of capital from investors and financial support from the government in the form of grants and tax breaks.

Energy Efficiency

Over the past several decades we have seen great technological strides in the area of energy efficiency. The electrical appliances in use today are much more efficient than their predecessors from just a decade ago, not to mention those that were around for most of last century. The cars produced in the last ten years are also much more fuel efficient than they were in the recent past. This is partly as a result of government regulations but mostly because of natural advances in science and technology.

With the cost of energy production skyrocketing over the course of the last decade, technology to make efficient use of that energy will experience unprecedented demand. As we have seen developing new ways of generating energy from Solar to Wind to Geothermal is not as easy or practical as we had once thought. It certainly is not as economical as we had hoped. The focus now has to shift to conservation out of necessity.

Companies that are established players in the field and fresh faced start-ups will see unprecedented growth as the weight of coming EPA regulations sinks in. For the intelligently pre-positioned investor this new financial opportunity wave will generate a huge pay off in the months and years to come.

Energy Storage

The sales of the Chevy Volt may be stuck in neutral for now but the idea of an economical and practical electric car is not going away. One major Green Initiative of the past four years which has a bright future is Energy Storage. While Solar and Wind Energy are not going to have much of an imact on our lives in the near future (barring some huge breakthrough) the same cannot be said for batteries. In fact, if battery technology was currently more advanced it might have even been able to save (possibly bit of a stretch) Solar and Wind Energy, both of which are by nature intermittent sources of electric energy and need an efficient, economical and practical Energy Storage technology to provide a steady stream of power.

Invented more than a century ago, batteries have been getting better and smaller and all along finding a wider array of applications as their dimensions have shrunk and their lives grew longer. In 2012 batteries are as indispensible to modern life as electricity itself. There is simply no comparison between battery technology and many other green technologies. Batteries are a proven technology that in the future will become an even greater part of our lives.

The next frontier for electric batteries is clearly the electric car. Current batteries are powerful enough and electricity is a lot cheaper than gasoline but range and quick recharge times remain as the two major obstacles that need to be overcome if electric cars are to become practical and widespread. However, given the enormous financial gains that will be realized by the first company to come up with the right solution and given the successful track record that battery technology has had for more than a century, what savvy investor would bet against it?
